PTIS International School
Frequently Asked Questions

What languages are offered at PTIS?

All subjects are taught in English. Students must take a second language, either French or Thai. These classes are taught by native speakers, and are streamed to accomodate learners from different levels. In middle school we also offer Mandarin. Diploma students (Grade 11-12) can take Korean, Thai, French, Spanish, Mandarin or a 'self taught' language if they are absolutely fluent in another language.

What extra academic support is available?

All students can access their teachers for extra help during specified times, outside of the class. Boarding students also have access to their teachers and interns for extra acdemic support during their nightly prep time in the library

What extra curricular activities can students be involved with?

Senior school students can participate in after school activities up to four nights each week, and Junior School students up to three nights each week. Activities may be sporting, creative, language based or special interest. These are run by teachers and interns, and occasionally a parent with a special interest.

What sporting options are there for students?

All students up to Grade 10 take Physical Education as a subject, which includes swimming lessons. PTIS is part of a seven school athletic conference which has a weekly interschool competition. Sports change each term, and include basketball, volleyball, football (soccer) and futsal (indoor soccer). There are also interschool track and field and swimming carnivals. We sometimes send teams and individuals to Bangkok to compete in competitions.
Our tennis, golf and cricket academies offer professional coaching options for students.

Do all students learn Thai language?

Foreign citizen students can choose to take Thai or French as their second language. Thai nationals must take Thai. Thai can be taken through to IB Diploma level. There are three levels of Thai language: Thai for those who can read and write; for those who can speak but not write; and for beginners.

What disciplinary model do you use?

We do not have a teachers manual stating how to teach, but it is generally understood that positive reinforcement is always best practice.

Are your teachers of a high standard?

Our teaching staff are: internationally recruited; have international experience; have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in education; many have Masters degrees or higher; many are IB workshop leaders, meaning they are leaders in their subject area and deliver training to other teachers in the Asia pacific region; many are IB examiners.

What is your policy on religious education?

We are non denominational. Our approach encourages and embraces the diversity of cultures and religions. Students consider local and global issues from many perspectives.
